ThispaperwilldiscusscurrenteffortsintherevisionofMIL-HDBK-217,MilitaryHandbook,ReliabilityPredictionofElectronicEquipment.Ithasbeenoveradecadesincethisreliabilitypredictionhandbookwaslastupdated,yetitremainsthemostwidelyusedreliabilitypredictionmethodforelectronicequipment.InFebruary2008,theDefenseStandardizationProgramOffice(DSPO)taskedtheCraneDivision,NavalSurfaceWarfareCenter(NSWCCrane),asthePreparingActivity,toreviseMIL-HDBK-217.

Aplanhasbeencreatedtorefreshthehandbookandtolookataddinganewapproachtobetterreflectreliabilityofelectronicequipment.AworkinggroupofindividualsrepresentingDepartmentofDefense(DoD)andindustryhasbeenestablishedtoconductthisrevision.DevelopmentandimplementationofsolutionsthatreflectindustrybestpracticesandDoDneedsiscriticalforsuccess.Resultsofthistaskare
plannedtobenewrevisionsofMIL-HDBK-217.

Theserevisionswillprovideanupdatedreliabilitypredictiontoolthatwillassistreliabilityengineersinperformingtheirwork.
