ThisEuropeanStandardsupersedesEN60601-1:1990anditsamendments.However,
EN60601-1:1990remainsvaliduntilalltheparts2thatareusedinconjunctionwithithavebeen
withdrawn.Nodateofwithdrawalofconflictingnationalstandards(dow)hasthereforebeenfixed.
However,whenPart1isusedforappliancesnotcoveredbyapart2,EN60601-1:1990isnottobe
usedafter2009-09-12.
ThisEN60601-1:2006hasbeensignificantlyrestructuredcomparedtoEN60601-1:1990.
Requirementsintheelectricalsectionhavebeenfurtheralignedwiththoseforinformationtechnology
equipmentcoveredbyEN60950-1andarequirementforincludingaRISKMANAGEMENT
PROCESShasbeenadded.Foranexpandeddescriptionofthisrevision,seeClauseA.3.
ThisEuropeanStandardhasbeenpreparedunderamandategiventoCENELECbytheEuropean
CommissionandtheEuropeanFreeTradeAssociationandcoversessentialrequirementsof
ECDirectives90/385/EECand93/42/EEC.SeeAnnexZZ.
Inthisstandardthefollowingprinttypesareused:
−requirementsanddefinitions:inromantype;
