TheIEEE-P1505ReceiverFixtureInterface(RFI)standardprovidesamechanicalandelectricalspecificationforimplementingacommoninteroperablemechanicalquickdisconnectinterconnectsystemforusebyindustryforinterfacinglargenumbersofelectricalsignals(digital,analog,RF,power,etc.).Theselargeinterfacepanels(receiverandfixturepanels)areemployedprimarilyintestsystemsbetweenstimulus/measurementassetsandarelatedunit-under-test(UUT),althoughanyapplicationinvolvinghighdensitycontactsrequiringaquickdisconnectinterfacecouldbenefit.Thereceiverisareceptaclethatismountedtotestsystemmateswithmultiplefixtures,whichserveasthebufferbetweentheUUTandATE.FixturestranslatestandardI/OsignalroutingofferedatthereceivertoawiringinterfacethatdirectlyconnectstotheUUT.TheseUUTinterfacescanrepresentcableconnectors,directplug-in(printedcircuitboardedgeconnectors),sensormonitoring,ormanualfeedbackfromthetesttechnician.Theprimaryobjectivesofthisstandardare:(a)toestablishinterfacestandardsthatpermitinterchangeabilityofmechanical/electricalreceiver/fixture/connectorproductassembliesfromvariousmanufacturersunderanopenarchitectureand(b)todevelopwithinthisframeworkadefinedset(s)ofinterconnectingconnectorandmechanicalspecificationsthatsupportsavailable,accepted,low-costcommercialtechnologytoreduceddependenceonproprietarydesigns,andextendlife-cycleavailability.
